Hypericaceae (St. John’s-worts) |
The Hypericaceae include 11 genera, and 580-600 species. They are distributed nearly worldwide, but the majority of genera and species are tropical. These are annual or perennial herbs, subshrubs or shrubs. The leaves are entire, alternate or whorled; sometimes dotted with glandular spots. The flowers are arranged in terminal or axillary cymes, or solitary; 3-5 sepals and petals. The fruit is a capsule. This family was formerly treated as a subfamily of the Clusiaceae.
